Our story
Founded in 1992 through the collaboration of designers Jouko Järvisalo and Pentti Hakala, Mobel is a Finnish furniture brand rooted in the Nordic tradition of clarity, functionality, and timeless design. From the start, the aim has been to create furniture that goes beyond function by shaping experiences, evoking emotions, and harmonizing with the spaces it inhabits.
Mobel designs customizable wood and steel furniture for demanding architectural spaces. Each piece is created to seamlessly complement the architect’s vision while addressing the smallest functional details of the space. We prioritize longevity and durability by carefully selecting materials and technical solutions, making Mobel a sustainable and intelligent choice for public interiors. Art serves as the foundation for all our design work, inspiring shapes and structures that are translated into new forms.
Several Mobel designs have received international recognition and are part of the permanent collections of design museums. In addition, Mobel's pieces have been featured in various exhibitions that celebrate Scandinavian and modernist design traditions.
Join us in creating captivating moments, making us think and remember. Experience the essence of pure shapes and modernism with Mobel.
Designers
Jouko Järvisalo
Interior architect, Professor Jouko Järvisalo is a furniture designer working in his own studio in Helsinki. Since 1979, he has been designing furniture for several Finnish manufacturers including Asko, Artek, Inno and Mobel. He is also the Head Designer and Creative Director at Mobel and he has taught furniture design at the Aalto University, School of Art and Design. His work is presented in museums such as Designmuseo, Helsinki, Athenaeum, Chicago, Stedelijk, Amsterdam and The Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art, Reykjavik, among the others.
”Lightness and sensibility to silence are my aim. Design is the union of mind and matter. A piece of furniture is created when thinking meets with the material used, as a result of the pondering that takes place in the middle ground between handiwork and the machine”.
Pentti Hakala
Pentti Hakala was born in 1949 in Saarijärvi. He graduated as an Interior Architect from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1982. He has been designing furniture for several Finnish manufacturers, as Avarte, Inno, Lepo Product, Martela, Korhonen and Mobel.
"You cannot and you shouldn´t make haste in this work. The world is full of good ideas and I usually work on them for years before the producer even sees a scale model, pictures of a prototype. The idea of a chair is thoroughly examined many times before the actual product development can begin."
Sustainability
Original by Design, Durable by nature
At Mobel, we believe that great design should be a reflection of creativity and sustainability. Our slogan embodies our commitment to designing furniture that not only captivates through its artistic inspiration but also stands the test of time — both in style and durability. We understand that true sustainability comes from creating products that last. Our furniture is made from high-quality, recyclable materials such as wood, wool, and steel, ensuring that the lifecycle of each piece is thoughtfully considered. Crafting products that are both environmentally and socially durable is at the core of our values
Green steel project
With our EU co-funded Green Steel project, we have taken a step toward integrating environmental considerations even more closely into our production and operations. The aim of the project has been to move the furniture industry toward the green transition.
During the “Green Steel” project, Mobel has explored recycled materials, raw materials produced with clean energy, and new ways to conserve natural resources in furniture design and manufacturing.
As a result of the project, we have produced our Kajo lamp from Outokumpu’s near-zero-emission Circle Green steel, the frame of the Nippu table from SSAB’s Zero steel, and the Pesä chair from Finnish PEFC-certified wood.
