Mobel is embarking on the 'Green Steel' project

Producing new materials and products presents sustainability challenges, but designing furniture that lasts for decades—using recycled materials and clean energy—minimizes this impact. Purchasing a Mobel piece is an investment that can last for decades, or even a lifetime. At Mobel, we always prioritize materials built to withstand heavy use, and we innovate design to extend product lifecycles. For example, we allow products to be updated by replacing only one component after decades of use.

Although Mobel has always focused on designing timeless furniture made from quality materials that stand the test of time, we are now taking the next step by further integrating environmental considerations into our production and operations. Mobel has launched an ambitious initiative to lead the green transition in the furniture industry. During the project “Green Steel”, Mobel conducts pilots and incorporates recycled materials, such as fossil carbon emission-free steel, recycled wool, and low emission foam, into furniture design.

Part of this project we also pay attention to:

    - Innovative Design: Our designers are dedicated to creating furniture that is not only functional and original by design but also minimizes waste through efficient use of recycled and eco-friendly materials and modular designs.

    - Sustainable Sourcing: We source materials and components from suppliers who prioritize sustainable practices in their production processes.

    - Lifecycle Services: We will develop our product offerings to ensure that every stage, from production to disposal, is carefully planned. Instead of simply replacing a product with a new one, we offer services designed to extend the product's lifecycle.

    - Community Engagement: As part of our commitment to sustainability, we will engage with local communities and stakeholders to promote awareness and education about the importance and possibilities of eco-friendly practices in the furniture industry.

The project is partially funded by the EU.
